I 2012 var sydkoreanske PSY det største hit på YouTube.
I år er Norge den klare vinder af YouTube Rewind 2013, en årlig opgørelse over de mest populære videoer, musikvideoer og kanaler på YouTube.
Hele verden har efterhånden spurgt, hvad ræven sagde og norske Ylvis og deres The Fox (What Does the Fox Say?)-video blev set mere end 275 millioner gange verden over, hvilket gør den til nummer et på listen over mest sete Youtube-video i 2013 såvel globalt som i Danmark.
Den næstmest sete video globalt, der også stammer fra Norge, Harlem Shake (original army edition), er hidtil set mere end 90 millioner gange. Videoen har været startskuddet til en lavine af "Harlem Shake"-videoer – i 2013 er der lagt flere "Harlem Shake"-videoer på YouTube end der er indbyggere i København (helt nøjagtig 1,7 millioner videoer, hvis man tæller, der tilsammen er set over 5 milliarder gange).

Der uploades 100 timers video i minuttet på YouTube og videoplatformen er konstant i forandring. Ingen kender endnu det næste store YouTube-hit, der lige så vel kan komme fra Danmark som fra Norge eller Sydkorea.
– Det er spændende at følge den udvikling, der hele tiden sker på YouTube. Siden vi lancerede en dansk version af YouTube først på året, er der kommet fart på udviklingen af dansk indhold, der har masser af potentiale, siger Christine Sørensen, talsperson for Google i Danmark, og fortsætter:
– På listen over mest sete videoer i Danmark ser vi allerede nu Chili Klaus, Thyfiskerne og Natholdet – YouTube er en scene, der bare venter på at blive indtaget, og det er spændende at se, om Danmark allerede næste år skal gøre Norge selskab på listen over de mest sete videoer verden over.
Listerne over de mest populære YouTube-videoer er baseret på, hvor mange gange en video er vist, men også hvor meget den er delt, markeret som “jeg kan lide denne” og kommenteret.
